Meet Ashly!

Hi! My name is Ashly Owens, I’m a twenty-something living in Charlotte, NC and working at Julie LaTerra Homes. I have the privilege of introducing customers and Realtors to Julie LaTerra Homes. I love being involved in the events at Julie LaTerra Homes like Girls' Night Out and Realtor Lunch & Learns.

Working for the largest female custom home builder in the Charlotte area is exciting! Julie’s specialty is offering a fresh approach to building your new home. Each Julie LaTerra Homes is "Made from Scratch" designed to meet our customer’s personal needs and desires. At Julie LaTerra Homes, we do something good for our world by "Giving Back". Julie has introduced environmentally-friendly home plans and products, addressing issues YOU care about. Julie LaTerra Homes are healthier to live in, easier to operate and are careful with the earth's natural resources.

You probably guessed my topic already… Green Building and Design and I’m very excited about it! Every Wednesday I’ll be talking about how easy it is to incorporate green practices into your Julie LaTerra Home. I’m not, by any means, an expert on everything associated with Green Building and Design, but I am an expert on what Julie LaTerra Homes can offer you. I’m also an incredibly skilled “Googler,” so I think the combo should make Wednesdays pretty interesting!

· I’ll be challenging the preconceived notions attached to the “green” buzzwords like responsibility, sustainability and environmentally-friendly—being “green” doesn’t mean you have to give up the luxuries you desire in your dream home.
· I’ll be explaining why the design of your home is crucial to maintaining its energy-efficiency. Through research on square footage, passive solar modification and even ceiling heights, I realized the importance of the innovative design process at Julie LaTerra Homes.
· I’ll also be introducing some of the environmentally-friendly systems that are available for your home that will provide years of reduced energy costs.
· Add as an added bonus—I’ll be including information on my favorite area of green building—new, stylish products that make it hard not to build using sustainable, recycled materials.

On a final note, you might be wondering if building green is worth it... At Julie LaTerra Homes, we definitely think it is worth it! In 2006, a McGraw-Hill Construction survey determined that “between 40% to 50% of the homes built in 2010 are expected to be green.” It’s a simple supply and demand function, and since the demand for High Performance homes built using “green” building practices will only increase in the coming years, you can rest easy, knowing you made a wise investment by building with Julie LaTerra Homes.

Until next Wednesday!

~ Ashly
